For Nick Lachey, the thought of appearing on yet another reality dating show was enough to make him cringe. As one half of the iconic 2000s pop duo 98 Degrees and the former star of the groundbreaking MTV series Newlyweds, Lachey had already put his personal life on full display for the world to see. So when his wife Vanessa suggested they take part in the new Netflix social experiment The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, his initial reaction was less than enthusiastic.

“I remember thinking, ‘Do I really have to announce this to the world?'” Lachey recently confessed in an interview. “It just felt…embarrassing, you know? Like, here we go again, Nick Lachey’s personal life is about to become public fodder.”

But Vanessa, ever the persuasive partner, managed to convince her husband that participating in The Ultimatum could be a positive experience – not just for their relationship, but for their fans as well.
